Get Sh!t Done With My 6 Productivity Tips

I'm definitely one of those people who always hears myself saying, "There are never enough hours in a day." And I'm definitely one of those people who catches myself mindlessly scrolling through Instagram or browsing the web waisting my time. But hey, I'm only human.

But on those days when I have a to-do list that's 20 tasks long, I have a few tricks that help me stay focused and get my work done. I find that these tips allow me to no only work hard, but smart. This combination allows me to stay motivated while protecting me from overworking and burning out.

Set Your Goals

First thing's first, start your morning by writing out both your business and personal goals. I find this allows me to prioritize what needs to be accomplished first and then I can complete everything in order of importance throughout the day.

Find Some Natural Light

I find nothing sets the tone for a day of hard work than opening my curtains and letting in some natural light, especially first thing in the morning. Natural light not only helps me feel alert and more awake, it also helps stimulate serotonin production - which is an instant mood lifter!

You've Got Mail

I personally feel like I can't get focused if I have an overflowing inbox. Once I've written out my goals for the day, I'll spend 20 to 30 minutes replying to emails and following up with any messages I sent the day before.

Do the Boring Stuff First

To push through your to-do list and get projects done, I make sure to get through the more boring or tedious tasks first so I have something to look forward to.

Drink Water

If you spend hours on end sitting, it's crucial to drink lots of water. This will not only help you stay alert and focus on your task at hand, but it gives you an excuse to get up and stretch your legs when you go to get more water or use the washroom.

Get a Change of Scenery

As a woman who spends most afternoons working from home, I'm extremely guilty of eating at my desk. I find that this leaves me feeling very uninspired as the day rolls on. To help get out of the same routine, I'll pack up my things and walk over to a coffee shop to finish up the day. I find that this gives me the mental pause I need to get ready to take on my next task on my list.
